Info from the foxsports website
'Mariners players Sasho Petrovski and John Hutchinson were both suspended for the match but they will now miss next weekend's trip to Queensland Roar.'

What a shite comedy of errors! I'm very pissed off, in that I left buying my ticket until AuburnMariner came charging through the Kendall crowd yelling the game is a 'definite starter'. This was five minutes AFTER the game was called off, as it transpired! The CCLC Ticketek outlet were also still selling tickets AFTER the postponement. They took my money, and after hearing from someone in the queue that the game was off, promptly pushed people out the office, saying 'tough - no refunds', and locking the door. I can feel for the Sydney FC fans, having myself made the long trip down from a totally dry Newcastle for the match. To top it off, I'd spent the whole of Saturday making a new banner that is Xmas related. I hope it doesn't happen for the Roar game next weekend, but I suspect their drainage is a tad better than ours. ps. AM - no hard feelings, you were only trying to do the right thing. ;D pps. It wasn't a total waste of a night, as at least there was plenty of good natured banter an singing between the fans in the Kendall.

If we are still a community club, it would be nice to make some sort of gesture to the poor SFC fans who travelled for nothing to watch a game that should have been called off hours earlier.
Partially subsidise some coaches for them perhaps??

'IF we are still a community club"?
wtf?? I wasn't aware that after a washout, our status as a community based club was in doubt.
I'd like to know why it wasn't called off earlier, but I'm not going to condemn anybody without knowing the reasons why.
Bluetongue has always had drainage problems - obviously it's something that needs to be looked at.
Still, not such a bad thing - hopefully we can have a full-strength squad when we play Sydney now.

Postponing the game will hopefully ensure a better spectacle than what we would have seen last night had it gone ahead. It'll also be good to have Petrovski (to rile up the SFC supporters), Hutchinson and hopefully Boogard and Pondeljak back for us, and Juninho back for SFC.
Maybe the teams could arrange to provide free transport on Cityrail to the rescheduled game (the Swans do it for their games at Homebush). That would also encourage a sell out and great atmosphere at the game.

The stadium is always going to have drainage problems as it's on reclaimed swampland, particularly with so much rain and a high tide. Not much can be done about that.
It should have been called off much much earlier and saved everyone a lot of grief.
I suspect there was pressure from Fox & the stadium management to wait. Not good enough.

You're right. That is just wrongand not petty
More so for Sydney fans who've already borne the expense of travelling once. People are likely to have plans already for free weekend and just before Christmas.
When U2 was postponed Ticketek (same agency) arranged a period for refunds which freed up tickets for a new round of sales - so it can be done. (I can understand why they weren't in a position to do that last night though).
If you're affected push hard against that shyte.

REf's call Hyundai A-League match referee Matthew Breeze, in consulation with Central Coast Mariners, Sydney FC, Bluetongue Stadium Management and FFA officials, inspected the field of play at half-hour intervals from 5:00pm (AEDT) to 6:30pm (AEDT) and as a result determined that due to the large amount of standing water on the field that the conditions were not safe for the match to commence.

The friday of the week before christmas, a week which had no HAL games previously scheduled? I'd say many fans would have made arrangements for that night (eg. christmas parties, work functions, travel to relatives, etc). I would expect a fairly high demand for refunds

Stating the bloody obvious: I'm disappointed the match didn't go ahead. But I can understand the decision. How would any of us feel if all parties bowed to crowd pressure and then a player - any player - got injured badly and carted off to hospital? Gull's explanation above seems reasonable, but I've also heard in the past they've had problems with the pumps (?). So if there's any way that Bluetongue Stadium Management can improve the drainage and pumping system to cope with situations like we had last night, then that would be great. I think that's the first HAL match to be postponed, so it's not a great 'first' for the Stadium to earn. Why Ticketek couldn't offer refunds to ticket buyers on the spot, after the decision to postpone, is beyond me. I'd guess that the match is likely to be played in the break over Christmas. It definately has to be played, those 3 points are very important for us and Sydney.

On the ticketek issue, this from their terms and conditions

Maybe the ground is too soft at Bluetongue to handle the weight of even a smaller version of the Super Soppa? Break the surface and you'd possibly sink a good 4 - 6 inches into the soil? The thing I have noticed about the soil on the Central Coast is it's softness (I moved up here 5 years ago from the clay pans of western Sydney).

CCMFC and SFC fans all have to remember, it wasnt in our control, if anyone was to call it off earlier it should have been the ref. Either club isnt at fault and our community club status will be fine.
The lateness is another show of how useless our referee's are at times. I was pissed off like the rest of us, id just baught $30 worth of grog, whihc we were encouraged to scull by the security,
the same security who would throw me out after I had done it because I would be pissed??
Its annoying and a shame, but not the clubs fault IMO,

What a bunch of whingers. It is ultimately the ref's call. Do you lot think he is going to call it off from wherever he lives at midday? Of course not he is going to wait until there is no chance for the game to start. When I was driving up around 5pm the thought that the match would be called did not enter my head the weather appeared to be clearing. Watching the rain that fell at 6pm I wondered whether we would need a boat to get out of the club. As to the Sydney fans I am sure that had a lovely scenic train ride worth every penny of the fare and will be so happy they will be back in December. As to buying tickets from ticketek those tickets will be valid for the postponed match. Anyway maybe you should join the club you support but are all so ready to criticize.
Shit happens, get over it.

Best decision was made IMO, the weather is totally out of their control. But refunds surely have to be offered especially considering the timing with people going away/going to parties etc. and not being able to make it.

The game had to be called off. Lyall even conceded that on fox. They could only spraypaint 3 sides of the field then there was player safety and the game it's self being at all watchable. I'm as pissed off as anyone else but it's just one of those things.
