Hopefully the 21st game will recoup the losses. But is was a ref's call.
Great pity about the cancellation I had 12 new people at the game, 8 Flying Circus people and 4 from Summerland Point and future Mariner's.
We got to the club at 5:00, that is the 12 new the our normal home match group (varies from 4 to 8), but all 8 were there, LOL tried to find a table for eats and merry making before the match.
No tables for 20, Midfielder was told by the 20 he was a bit of !@*?!! for thinking of such a size table. Man was the club was packed so we had to break up into three tables at different parts of the club.
All had prepurchased tickets, so hopefully they will also come to 21 December match.
On balance I actually think the right decision player injury and cut up field was more important than Foxs TV rights. It took guts so well done Ref and both clubs management.

Yesterday I didn't know who I wanted to win this game because a win for you guys would have made it near impossible to be caught and a win for sydney means they would have been right on our tail again for a top 4 position.
However things worked out perfectly as now we have a nice buffer on sydney and also got 3 points closer to you guys. Thankyou Blue Tongue stadium draining system ;D

That's forgetting about how we have a game in hand now I suppose. Works out for me as I wasn't going to the match - now probably can Guess it was the right decision, yet I think the club should compensate some people (e.g. as someone sugggested, give Sydney FC fans money back, or refund transport for them, etc). At least it sounds like Ticketec will offer refunds - unfair if they don't. Right decision - but it could have been handled better and eariler methinks... AND FIX THE DRAINING!

Not up to ticketek to say we will issue refunds, has to come from who they are selling the tickets on behalf of. Can Mariners fans that come from Sydney get the refund on travel as well

It's the weather's fault.
Beyond that, I say it's better to wait and give the ground every chance to be ready before calling it for all the Sydney fans who have travelled up and the thousands who have pre-bought tickets for that date. You probably would have had both the clubs, ticketek, and most of all Fox Sports pushing that the decision be made as late as possible.

Just got back home to Sydney after my long weekend on the Coast. Great weekend - except for the postponement. I stayed 2 nights at the Mantra Ettalong, but what can you do? It had to be called off for sure, but should have been done much earlier. Looking on the bright side of things - it was GREAT to meet you all in the Kendall Room and I'll try and get back before the play-offs. ;D If the match is to rescheduled for the 21st Dec, I'm a non starter due a work Chrissy party. I'm sure I'm not on my own here.

All I have to say is the FFA had better not try this next sunday, after 20+ of us have flown up to QLD, or they will have an angry bear wanting ALL his money back

Like everyone else, I'm disappointed the game was called off. All the more so because it was a game against Bling. From the few people I have talked to, though, it seems odd that it took them so long to call it off, given that it rained overnight (Fri-Sat), and most of Saturday in Gosford.
I know it's the ref's call, but in cases like this, couldn't the decision have been delegated to someone else in order to save us (Bling & Sydney based Mariners fans) a trip up the F3?
Anyway, Friday nights aren't ideal, but will definitely try to be there on the 21st......

Come down off your high horse Ursus. some people may not find it too easy to stump up the $$ for a membership in one go. By the way, I am a member :-) Cheaper if they do.

Depends on how many games you can get too. Not all of us can get to over 50% of games, so pay week by week. In any case, I Iook at my match by match contribution as more support for the Club, as I'm paying the full rate, especially when it looks like I'll make most, if not all, games this year. I'm quiet happy in that arrangement. My beef is not that the game was called off, or that I've got a non-refundable ticket. It is that Ticketek were still selling after the game had been called off.

ccmariners.com.au does say tickets will be valid when a date for the match has been confirmed.

f***ing hell the Cove are whinging........get over it.
What can you do? It pissed down with rain, the ref gave as long as he could to allow the game to go ahead (which he should do), if Sydney lost 3-0 the Cove would have been whinging that the game should have been called off, as we would have if we lost......at least we'll get a better game of football on 21st (or whenever it gets played)
The conditions were dangerous, it's not worth risking the players health and fitness.
As for some Sydney fans saying it should be played at SFS, or points awarded to them etc etc......please grow up, this is a professional league and a professional decision had to be made.
As annoying as it was for everyone the right decision was made.
The only point I agree with is that Bluetongues drainage is very poor, it does need some improvement, the rain we had though would have tested other grounds too!

In season 1 the ground at bluetongue was one of the very best in the league. The sole users of the stadium were the mariners and apart from the odd rugby league game played there (which isn't even during our season) you had the ground all to yourselves.
However now that this rugby tournament thing has started there are two teams this year and unfortunately bluetongues pitch is probably the worst in the competition. Its a shame cause its a great stadium and deserves better. The rugby teams need to be kicked off so the field can once again be decent and the locals can see some good football played.
However the groundstaff at EAS do a very good job. We have two teams using the field all year round and our ground would have to be close to the best pitch in the league. Hindmarsh is also good but they don't have any other sport to contend with.
Its funny i saw all the rain on tv when your game was called off and how it was really terrible weather but we didn't have one drop of rain at all in newcastle and are just an hour up the road.

I heard the drainage needs $2M worth of repairs, which are planned for the next HAL off-season. (could be a chinese whisper though)
As for the surface, I noticed it was by far at its worst when Union was played on it the day before a Mariners game (during the run of Sunday matches). I'm no Union expert, but would they really have as many complaints from the 10 or 20 Union fans if they played the day after a Mariners game?
