In season 1 the ground at bluetongue was one of the very best in the league. The sole users of the stadium were the mariners and apart from the odd rugby league game played there (which isn't even during our season) you had the ground all to yourselves. However now that this rugby tournament thing has started there are two teams this year and unfortunately bluetongues pitch is probably the worst in the competition. Its a shame cause its a great stadium and deserves better. The rugby teams need to be kicked off so the field can once again be decent and the locals can see some good football played. However the groundstaff at EAS do a very good job. We have two teams using the field all year round and our ground would have to be close to the best pitch in the league. Hindmarsh is also good but they don't have any other sport to contend with. Its funny i saw all the rain on tv when your game was called off and how it was really terrible weather but we didn't have one drop of rain at all in newcastle and are just an hour up the road. Worst troll ever Your ground if so f***ing far from close to the best ground in the league its not funny. It looked good last week, but still far from the best. Please stop filling our threads with your bollocks, its a waste of your time to write it and a waste of ours to read it.

The Central Coast Mariners will today approach Football Federation Australia to seek some financial assistance after Saturday night's washout left them with a bill of more than $60,000.
Mariners chairman Lyall Gorman will hold talks with the FFA after the late postponement of the home tie with Sydney - with 120ml of rain falling on Gosford in six hours - left club and authority figures to deal with the consequences of the A-League's first postponement.
"We had to go through normal game day expenses, which is probably in the region of $60,000," Gorman said. "Of course we have no revenue because all the tickets are transferable to the next match but we'll have the same game-day expenses then.
"There's no insurance cover and it certainly raises some challenges for us. I will certainly have a talk with the FFA though I'm not aware of what their reaction will be.
"We'll be in discussions tomorrow about rescheduling the event and what kind of assistance they might be able to offer. The loss will hurt us in cash terms. The opportunity was that we were expecting 14,000 and so if the game is rescheduled for December 21 (the likely outcome) we'll have a lot of tourists in the area and we can work hard to increase that game to 17,000 or 18,000, which would offset some of the losses from Saturday night."
FFA head of operations Rob Abernethy said that he couldn't comment on how the FFA might react to a request until discussions had been held internally tomorrow, but added: "We will be open to any request."

....snipped ... The only point I agree with is that Bluetongues drainage is very poor, it does need some improvement, the rain we had though would have tested other grounds too! I blame the motor cross just before Season 1. They dumped many tonnes of soil on the ground and it seems to have stuffed the underground drainage lines. I say that 'cos I was at a Central Coast United game in the season before when it pissed down before the game, and with pools on the surface before the start, by half-time the ground was bone-dry! Something changed after that!

I know it's income for stadium owners, but it's hard to follow the rationale in spending enormous dollars in pitch building & maintenance to have it ruined by the dumping of thousands of tons of high clay content soil for MX shows, which cannot be completely removed after the fact.

The Mariners rent the ground on a game by game basis, am I correct? If its a drainage problem, is it not therefor the stadium managements responsibility to compensate the Mariners, not the FFA?

Hard to mount a case on the basis a ground was unplayable following 5 inches of rain. Most grounds would have been in the same condition. It's highly unusual circumstances that would seldom happen.

Well the word on the street is that the pumps and drainage for the ground are shot, which would have a large effect on the playing surface, obviously. They should be held somewhat accountable I would think.

I don't think so. It was called off due to conditions that really no-one is responsible for, even though many could blame the grounds drainage system. However, I would think that the Mariners woud have been made aware a while ago about the problems regarding the drainage system. The stadium management aren't to blame, and the only company/organisation that the marners have a chance of getting some sort of financial assistance from are the FFA.

2 words. Pluvius Cover (rain insurance - spelling)
Dont know whether it would be available to CCM/Stadium or if it was a risk the club decide to bear themselves??
As to the ground, it is reclaimed swamp land and the natural watercourse for Gosfords rain to reach Brisbane Water (old timers talk of a creek). Remember the issues the Bears had when the ground was being built.
In UK where a postponement is feared, a local ref inspects the ground so that fans can be advised ASAP and they dont have to wait for the scheduled ref to arrive. I just cant believe that the pitch was fine at 5 but farked at 6:20. With the rain we had had and the history of the ground, it must have been pretty bad (they cancelled the celebrity game at 12:30 so must have known something was up).
Whilst it would be nice to get paid out by the FFA, why should they?? We cant really quantify our "loss" until the replay and we see how much $$ we make that time.
As for EAS - given that it is elevated and on a sandy soil (I think), it would obviously drain better. Therefore, its terrible condition post every NRL season is inexcusable.

As for Sydney fans complaining they have short memories. A similar situation happened a few years ago at the SFS. I believe it was during the 1998 WC qualifying campaign with the Socceroos due to play New Zealand. Many people, including myself, travelled from all over the state to get to the game. It poured down rain and the ref inspected the pitch and the game was called off with about an hour to go. It was rescheduled for the next night at Parramatta. I understand how the fans feel because I have been in that situation before but it can't be helped. It's unfortunate but we are still four points clear but now we have a game in hand.
