2 words. Pluvius Cover (rain insurance - spelling) Dont know whether it would be available to CCM/Stadium or if it was a risk the club decide to bear themselves?? As to the ground, it is reclaimed swamp land and the natural watercourse for Gosfords rain to reach Brisbane Water (old timers talk of a creek). Remember the issues the Bears had when the ground was being built. In UK where a postponement is feared, a local ref inspects the ground so that fans can be advised ASAP and they dont have to wait for the scheduled ref to arrive. I just cant believe that the pitch was fine at 5 but farked at 6:20. With the rain we had had and the history of the ground, it must have been pretty bad (they cancelled the celebrity game at 12:30 so must have known something was up). Whilst it would be nice to get paid out by the FFA, why should they?? We cant really quantify our "loss" until the replay and we see how much $$ we make that time. As for EAS - given that it is elevated and on a sandy soil (I think), it would obviously drain better. Therefore, its terrible condition post every NRL season is inexcusable. Part about reclaimed swamp land doesn't hold water, pun intended, there have been games held at Bluetongue previously when just as much rain has fallen and the ground was dry. As someone has mentioned that was pre motor cross. Sub course of the pitch would be state of the art and not reliant on water draining through swamp land. If the $2m to fix it is not immediately available, save us the broom brigade embarrasment and invest in a super soppa.

Not hard to quantify the ground hire, security, catering, ticketing staff costs ect., which would have been the same as usual. That's the loss they spoke of. EAS had major pitch drainage works completed in the last decade. ( I can't remember the year)

Daft Punk>>>> Mariners V FC??
There is no choice there, Mariners win out! Especially at $130 a pop. Could see a few FC supporters missing it, cuz they are going to daft punk.

Telegraph has a rather enfuriating article about the ground, confirming that the damage to the "state of the art drainage system" was done by the motocross back in '04.
The promoters of the Supercross Masters were charged $80,000 to repair the surface only, and have been barred from returning.
Major drainage repairs and upgrades are scheduled for March, but (get this for stupidity): the Crusty Demons have booked the stadium for May.
The mind boggles...

The mind boggles... can't find it online or in the paper (sydney edition) but will take your word for it. there may be ways they can prevent the same drainage issues arising, the problem also probably wouldn't have come to a head had it not been for the ridiculous (120mm in 6 hours) amount of rain that hit. just a thought - i know they collect water from the rooves at the stadium in tanks, do you think they do (or did... when it worked) the same with run-through from the turf?

The holding tanks would have large capacity overflows to prevent backup causing water damage to buildings.

I went to that WCQ against NZ as well, we had tickets for a box at SFS on the Sat night, but they would only let us in GA at Parra Doesn't Matta on the Sunday!
Saturday 22nd is a better date than mid-week or the Friday imo. As for the postponement I wasn't too surprised as we had so much rain over a short period of time. There's no point finger pointing - as far as I'm concerned the club have done the right thing with the tickets by offering entry on the new date or a refund and if you have a season ticket there are no dramas any how. As for not being able to afford the price of a season ticket I would suggest that many people that go to the games would spend as much on the piss in say 1 to 3 games as would cover the price of a GA season ticket!

Radiohead, and now Daft Punk?? Geez Perm, your taste in music isn't doing you any favours. E-Bay is your friend...... make some money off the ticket and be at potentially the biggest home game of the season. Mariners >>>>>>>> anything else except country. ;D
