It wasn't that many weeks ago we were in a similar situation with Adelaide equal top. We can still do this. We need the following team though because as much as it would be nice we won't be playing 4-3-3 any time soon Vuka Boogs Wilko Heff Tommy Jedi Hutch Owens Sash Aloisi I'm torn because I really do not know who can play right back. Could Stringers??? I also would love to see Matty on but it pushes either Sash or Aloisi wide. When we are at our best its our width that scares the shit out of other teams. This is what we need back - QLD showed that tonight and I think this league is lucky they can't shoot. If we had half their wide play we would bang in 3 most games. Yeah I would personally have Stringers in our side he is a great back who in set pieces can score. I don't know about owen maybe? matty S could maybe start in the mids or sit behind john and sash. This would be my side fully fit. DV Stringers Wilko Boogs Heff Gumps Jedi Hutch Matty S Aloisi Sash But hey that is just my opinion! Gives us more in attack and our backs are still solid. I would have on the bench Clarky, Browny, Porter and Trott. I would really love to see this side one day !!! I think They would go for Owens over Matty only because of balance and the want of playing a 4-4-2 Formation. I like the team you put on but there is no Tommy P and I think Gumps is a SUPER SUB type now. When Owens plays wide he goes alright we just had no width tonight at all bar a couple of Clarkey runs and one by Mat. Sorry I forgot about Tommy P. He would replace Gumps or Maty S in my team. I personally think clarky is great but Stringers is so underated and is gonna kill it one day. I am sorry but I just haven't seen enough from Owens but he is front of Kwassie as he has a few bad games now back from injury. I think Lawrie needs to make a few of the hard decisions and drop Kwassie, Viddy and I'm not all that impresed from porter. But hey that is just one persons opinion and I think with our youth structure and recruiting possibilities will will get stronger from every season here on in.

They were eating us alive out on the wings. Starting Boogaard is a must this week against adelaide. We should probably play Porter at right back and work on better ways of covering the left. i dont believe the 4-4-2 can work against every team. My theory is, is that we are going to need an extra defender or defensive mid if Heff wants to be an attacking left back because the cover isnt exactly there either. I can also say that thank god Zullo wasnt there because that wouldve been even more embarrassing for Clark tonight. There was some good elements of attacking play from us tonight but as the game went on they became few and far between. I can say that i cant wait on the return of Hutch, Pondeljak and Petrovski

Vidmar didn't have his best game but don't right him off. I'm sure I'm going to get howled down for saying this, However, we have looked our strongest this year when Viddy and Boogs are in the middle. Before Wilko was injured we were leaking in the middle. After he has come back we are leaking in the middle. He commits himself, misses and it is left to the other centre back to cover for him. Not a shadow of the player he was last year. You make a good point because Boogs and Viddy were awesome when wilko was away. I'm really confused with who to play in the backs but Viddy needs a kick in the bum from tonights game.

We lacked creativity in midfield Gave the ball away far too much coming out of defense Defensive lapses are killing us Playing Kwas in behind the strikers didn't work at all Close control was poor as well, with QLD getting so many scraps from us Aloisi is looking better and better Boogs needs to come back in for Viddy (if he is fit) Hutch in for Brown Tommy in for Kwas Tough call between Sash and Simon. Sash is the more experienced player with touches of quality, but Simon compliments Aloisi much better

Maybe play a backline of Wilko Boogs Vidmar Heff Yeah maybe but I would have wilko and boogs in the centre and heff and stringers/Clark on the wings. But at the end of the day Lawrie makes the decisions and has to wear the consequences.

Wilko seems to be the problem in the middle. I'd like to see him at right back where he won't be able to ball watch - and if he challenges and misses there is more cover inside.

Heffernan should be shot for allowing Kruse to cross the ball for the own goal. No desperation, just a casual waft of his wrong peg, he could have easily prevented the cross, hope Lawrie gives him an earbashing. Vukovic was immense, real presence, is the only player who will genuinely challenge Schwarzer, he would have saved Mackay's shot but for Vidmar's deflection. Thought Aloisi had his best game, he is a class act under pressure, Simon did well too. We really missed Hutch in midfield. What has happened to Kwasnik? he has disappeared. Poorest game I have seen from Wilko for a long time. Wonder who will replace Gumprecht when his contract isn't renewed next year? And the A league is great, what a contest! roll on Adelaide with Boogard, Pondeljak, Hutchinson and Petrovski back.

Yeh, tonight was just one of those games where a combination of bad luck and lack of desperation lost us pretty much all of the scraps/50-50's/stray balls. Vidmar basically couldnt have been any more unlucky tonight, really feel for the guy but admittedly he was quiet all night, infact all of the backs looked fairly ordinary and each contributed to condeding a goal. Players that you wouldnt even realise were on : Kwasnik Wilkinson Players that played average but tried their asses off : Simon Owens Brown
Players that played well : Aloisi Vukovic

They were hungrier than us and simply wanted it more. Yes, the missing players hurt us badly and we have 2 or 3 squad players who are simply not up the HAL V3 standard. We almost played with 8 men last night and 3 passengers.
As to Viddie, its tragic to see a legend of the game reduced to this level. He must be unhappy and probably cant wait for retirement. The game was crying out for him to be replaced by Porter with Clarkie moving into CB but we wouldnt do it.
On a more positive note, any other side that had 6 regulars out would be rooted as well and QLD wont ever have it that easy against us again :-)

Top of the shopping list: One quality RB. One creative AM. The two scarcest commodities in the A-League. They will not be easy to find. We may have to hope Tommy's body can take another season and Ossie can make a comeback.

One positive from last night, I think we held the ball better and did not turn it over as easily as we have been of late. Shame about the defensive effort (apart from DV) but I think that can be addressed. We have played a lot worse lately and won. I am feeling confident about the rest of the season.

Creative AM? We'll just have to show more of that financial sidestep and snap up Josip Skoko...

We had no midfield, lacked creativity, and Vidmar is so past it, Danny was outstanding again...............that just about sums it up for me.
As hard as Simon works he aint a goal scorer, bring back Sasho, Tommy, Hutch and Boogs......fingers crossed all will be available for Friday.

On a slightly brighter note, the Roar only managed to beat us by one goal and we were missing 5 of our first team players, 6 if you include Mrdja.

Agree though, creative AM and attacking RB is what we need. Ossie would be gold if he can regain the form he had before injury...

Looking at the goals, man that must hurt to lose like that. Poor Viddie... did not have a good game. We were dominated in midfield, and should have played better. Was a game we should have tried to at least draw, but we were a bit flat. And we suffered again from falling alseep after scoring, and paid the price for too little too late. Nice first goal however
