[This is a post in two parts across two threads – I started writing it for an entirely new thread but I didn’t want to kill another thread, so I decided to link them and build on them] I was thinking a little about next year (given that this season’s done and dusted…) and thinking about what we can do to build and develop. We need to develop our support. We have good numbers, a regular turnout, a core of people who’ve been there from the very beginning and a kind of culture of our own. We need to look at ways that we can build on what we’ve got, and make our support better both in terms of lifting the boys but also in terms of making great atmosphere and a spectacle that brings the punters back week after week. So not only do we lift the team, we become a more essential part of the show. This thread's about song ideas, for spectacle ideas, go here. Support: The big thing I think is getting the rest of the crowd involved. There will be nothing that lifts the boys so much as getting all three stands going on a song at the same time, and belting it out with all their might. It can be simple, it can even be a bit lowbrow as far as us oh-so sophisticated football supporters are concerned, but f*** me if “Mariners Clap- Clap- Clap” being belted out by more than ten thousand people doesn’t lift the boys. And the number of times we’ve had that come to us from the stands rather than the other way around says to me that they *want* to get involved, they *want* to sing with us and lift the boys up. Being vocal and singing at football is becoming part of what going to the Mariners is all about. We can do better than that though, and that’s where we need simple anthemic tunes that the whole crowd can learn in a second and join in. Simple, melodic, repeated enough times to flow all the way to the southern end – that’s the recipe.

I would be happy to record a few mariners chanting these songs as mp3s and put them up maybe on marinators.net if anyone thinks that would be a good idea.
I have a laptop and the software to do so. Been getting heaps of practise with audio tours at work.
I cant carry a tune and have NO IDEA as hubby would agree putting these words to tunes I am sure some others must have this disability as well LOL.

There are great songs already here and dispersed through heaps of old threads that are never sung. Some have made it through like 'yellow yeah yellow' but most slip through the cracks. I don't mean to kill the buzz, but we should be concentrating more on ways to get all the great songs learned and used. I think a complete overhaul of the sea shanties section of the website would be a good start (likely along with the rest of the site ) with just the actual songs that are currently known and sung. We then introduce a weekly 'song of the week' competition/feature where the new song for that week is announced on the thursday to be trialled at the weekend's game. This way everyone who doesn't patrol the forum has an easy way of learning the new stuff, including the adjacent bays who we want to join in! Also, the pre-match Kendall sing-a-long must return! The atmosphere in there has been lacklustre as well as numbers at times, despite the ridiculously good giveaways we have! It should be promoted more as the 'official unofficial pre-match function for all mariners fans'.

agree about the Kendall atmosphere, more singing and downing pints getting amped for the game is needed.

Thing is with the Kendall that as our crowds grow (lets hope for no rain and another 27% increase next year) the days of falling out of the Kendall Bar with 15 or 20 mins to kick off are over.
As the gates open, Bay 16 and to a lesser extent, 15 and 17 fill wuickly and people are goingto the ground earlier.
Maybe we need to end the "festivities" when the gates open??

I see your point but IMO the CCLC and Charles do a hell of a lot for the supporters group and as thanks we need to support them also.

jus' a little heads up for our creative folks. i'm not sure if they'll be able to make it work, but i think it's the sort of thing that we'll need - that's a song with heaps of potential but we haven't got it going 100% brilliantly yet.
no need for a blatant rip-off of it, but some sort of tee-up/intro to make it work is a goer.
