Still disappointed. Good performance by the boys, but wasn't quite enough. Farce that Yorke was MOM, should have been Meggzi. Unfortunately, like people have been saying on other threads, I think he's played his last game for us. He yet again showed on Sunday that he's a class above at this level.
Still, the players and fans (especially the Marinators) have a lot to be proud of, from Sunday, and the season in general. No-one expected the team to do anything this year, and we made the GF. We didn't fluke it either, with 12 games unbeaten leading to the GF.
The fans, after the GF and semi in Newcastle can legitimately claim to be the best travelling fans in the league. We have a uniquely close relationship netween the club and its supporters that accounts for a lot of this year's success, on and off the field.
Finally, and I hate to use this cliche, but Sunday was good for football. I know there'd been big NSL GFs in the past, but the passion of the 42,000 fans there on Sunday was something I didn't expect when the A-League was first announced. I've loved football for longer than I've loved the Mariners, and, despite my disappointment about Sunday's result, I'm optimistic about the future of the game in Australia.

I don't remember, cause I haven't seen the Mariners lose (that's what comes from being a noobie bandwagoner ). No, really, got back from overseas just after new year (NZ game first I saw). Was following the lads from afar, never expected to come back to an undefeated run up to the grand final.

Ticketek should never have let people buy 12 tickets each. Nobody needs to buy that many for themselves. It just opens the door to scalpers. Didn't it used to be 4 tix per transaction? That'd make a lot more sense.

As someone who grew up here but always supported overseas football and local sports like league and AFL without too much real passion, its great to have a local, Aussie team to get behind.
The first of many great years to come...

Is everybody new a 'bandwagoner'? I expect a lot of people who've only recently come on board (myself included) will show up next year. Average crowds will be way higher than this year.
I never expected to see 17,000 people at a football match in Gosford, or people queuing all night to buy football tickets here. I didn't think it would be a bad thing when it happened.
Yes, the FFA screwed up badly by not having priority away ticketing for members and season ticket holders, and I think the 12 tix per person limit was excessive (hence gf tix on eBay), but these aren't the fault of the newer fans going to the game on Sunday.

No bookings today, so nobody suspended for next week. Full-strength team (minus the obvious long-term injuries) for the biggest match of the year

Second that about the no fingernails left. 12 games, no loss, we have to be the form team in the comp. A good three months of skill, steely determination and, sometimes, luck. Bring on the bling and COME ON YOU YELLOW!!!

Give some of the local pollies a bit of credit. I know at least three Gosford councillors that regularly attend matches, without any fanfare, because of their interest in the game.
How ironic though, to hear the Gosford Mayor, who's championed the rugby codes for years, have to pretend like he's interested in the Mariners and wouldn't have preferred a league or union team in the area instead. At leat Graham said as much straight out

Sign him on to a long-term contract, pay him as much as the club can afford and give him as much money for (re)signing players as the club can afford

Have been told that there'll be an announcement about receptions etc for the Mariners (equal to what will be put on by the State Govt) at the farewell tomorrow.
I hope all this talk of what will happen if we win the GF doesn't jinx us

Just emailed Grant McBride, Minister for the Central Coast (and copied to Iemma) asking to make sure whatever is offered to Sydney is also offered to the Mariners.
Contact him, or your local MP. Its the sort of issue they love: an easy thing to organise that will be extremely popular in the community.

My least favourite comment that anybody can make about a football match is 'that the better team lost'. You win a football match by scoring more goals than the other team. The 'better team' is, judged by the objective of winning a match, the team that scores more goals over 90 minutes (or 180 as the case may be). P.S. I've said 'the better team lost' when my team's lost more times than I can remember (although obviously not in relation to the Mariners ) I think its a natural defence mechanism after losing

Terrace is concrete steps instead of seats, where spectators pack in, stand and watch the match. They used to have them all over Europe, and have them at a few grounds in Australia (Olympic Park in Melbourne for one). Most terraces in Europe, especially at bigger grounds, have now gone, and FIFA and UEFA (not sure about AFF) games have to be played at all-seated grounds. A lot of supporters want terraces restored at grounds (there are organised campaigns in England), as they say there was a better atmosphere at grounds. Question for anybody with contacts in the club: any chance of having the seats ripped off Bay 16 (and maybe 15 and 17 as well)? Its treated like a terrace as it is
