Interesting perspective on Bugno, hadn't heard that before

Bit of a joke that Danny wasn't young player of the year. Its much easier for a young striker or midfielder to ease into professional football that a defender or keeper. What other young players stand up to as much pressure and responsibility in a game as Danny?

I'd hoped the A-League would keep second and third tier Aussie players here, rather than moving to shitbox, fourth-rate European leagues.
But if agents of this ilk think they can make a buck out of Aussie players heading to shit European leagues, then the A-League will suffer

I don't think it'll be the end of the world if he doesn't resign. He's shown his potential but not consistently. If we stay injury free (admittedly a big 'if') we've got a pretty strong midfield for next season

I'd rather play unconvincingly and win than play pretty and lose
Penalty was a fair call I thought, a bit 50/50 as to where the foul began, but its fair enough to give the benefit of the doubt to the fouled attacking player.
Which two Adelaide players are gonna get sent off next week? ;D

No team's scored 6 in a game yet in the A-League, surely its due?

Apparently the pumps broke down during the week and it didn't stop raining for long enough to fix them.

Its not really about having a rational reason for hassling him. I think we need a hate figure just for the sake of it - its fun. Though Reddy's past action make him an obvious candidate

Refs

Glad this came up, glad I'm not the only one who's been thinking about this over the last couple of weeks. Like other people, I'm not blaming the ref entirely for our loss tonight - we were poor on the 50/50 balls and Andre's absence showed how important he is to the team. But, why did the ref blow the whistle when he did for their first goal? The established custom over decades of refereeing ( if not technically the rule) is that, at a free kick, the ref will have a word to the attacking players, have a word to the defensive wall then walk well away from the ball and then blow the whistle for the free kick. Its not rocket science, but apparently A League refs don't know this. Is it just me, or did the ref wink at Lazaridis before he blew the whistle Seriously, the poor quality of refereeing is going to be a big problem for the league. We seem to have home town refereeing every week, and that can't be good for the credibility of the league. I'm not suggesting an Italian-style bribery scandal, but the FFA seems to have on its roster a lot of refs who are really reluctant to make calls against what they think will be a hostile home crowd. We have marquee players, maybe we need marquee referees? Pierliugi Collina isn't doing much these days, maybe the FFA could pay him good money to spend a few weeks in the Aussie sun and show local refs how its done

Decent hit out from the lads for a first up effort. Obviously a little short on match practice, but hey, that's what trial matches are for. A bit patchy at the back - the new backline in the post Meggzi/Heff era is gonna be something that'll take time to readjust.
Off the field - good to see a decent turnout, and good to meet those of you I met in person for the first time.
No beer at the ground + cold = knew I should've taken the hip flask

Singo's right on the money with the club's tardiness in re-signing Lawrie. Should have been re-signed six weeks ago. I'm glad the 'Lawrie to Sydney' talk has finally been killed, and that Lawrie's not mercenary enough to leave us after one year, but the whole thing could have been prevented had the contracted been offered earlier.

Has Lawrie signed his new contract with us? Not suggesting a conspiracy theory, just wondering
I'd also be interested to know how much cash Sydney really have to spend on a new manager. $4-500,000 a year is still over the odds of what other clubs are paying. Sounds like a lot for a club in $6million in debt...
Like other people have said, it's all speculation at the moment right? Haven't heard anything about Sydney being after Lawrie other than on this forum, but I assume the reports are simply suggesting they're after him, rather than the attention being reciprocated. I don't see why he'd want to go, though. With us, Lawrie's been able to build the team the way he wants, and has had close involvement with, and support from the club. Would he get that at Sydney? From Littbarski's experience, and the back-room shenanigans around Bugno going/staying, Lawrie would spend most of his time digging the knife out from between his shoulder blades.

Dunno about the SPL being of a much higher standard than the A-League. Apart from the Old Firm, Edinburgh teams and Aberdeen (in a good year), the league's not brilliant. If in Scotland, watch the SPL Match of the Day prgram for an insomnia cure.
Scotland's a great country btw. Avoid Glasgow and grim towns in central Scotland and you'll meet fantastic people. Edinburgh's the best city in Britain for mine

Why would a manager (Littbarski) want to join a club where the owner has already sacked two managers this season? When the team is second in the league?
Have trouble seeing Lawrie at Sydney - too many egos in the dressing room and back-room bickering

I also saw the Football Fever article yesterday. Obviously, I hope its not true, but European clubs are known for buying players from what they see as footballing backwaters on the cheap.
I don't understand why the Mariners would agree to a transfer fee to take effect at the end of the loan now. What if Meggzi and Heff have brillant seasons and their open market value is more than what is agreed with Nurnberg?
Meggzi and Heff are still Mariners players until a permanent deal is signed. Why can't the club negotiate a permanent deal towards the end of the loan deal, when we'll have a better idea of the players' real transfer value?

Sponsored it, $60k/year over three years. Does any of this money actually go to the club? I thought (as the club are tenants at the stadium), ground naming rights are separate to club sponsorship

What sort of wages would Popa expect? It'd be an extremely substantial wage cut from what he's currently on. Would be a great signing if it didn't put financial pressure on the club

Its all but done, yeah? Its been in the papers for the last couple of days.
Sad they're leaving, but good luck to them both.
Just hope we get the market transfer fee for them and don't get screwed because we're not a European club
